Professor of Political Science and Islamic thought at HBKU, Chairman of the Board of the Ain al-Sharq Center for Policy Studies, and Fellow at the Institute for Policy and Social Understanding. He is an advocate of negotiated transition to democracy in Syria and a defender of the civic rights of the Muslim communities in the United States and Europe for over two decades. He served as the Founding Chair of the Syrian American Council, and Member of the Board of Trustees of the Islamic Society of North America and the Center for the Study of Islam and Democracy.
